Sky, Sawn

Sky is let today

             it’s all bloody

                           and wet

                    light’s runoff text

             red streaked on

             the horizon like meaning’s

excess. and burned for over

             illumination. fires

                             flickered for no witness.

                  flares we sent

            returned

our questions.

            sentences fell back

            in our throats. smoke

                           signals blown back to choke

              us. the sky secretes

            from fresh incisions

scars over our brightest

            sacrifices. what we sought

                          in distances beyond

              eyesight swelled

            from inside

red sky brought

                          so close we grow

            slick with it

Rain Warp

I was of three minds like a bird

tracking the seam between thundercloud and horizon

distrusted the discreet / edges of frames / again /standing in torrential weather / the buildings/

seemed to slant with the trees / rain darkening even the nonporous / field of absorbent shadows

image made up of needles / weaved wound by wound so the bag/ I carry it in / keeps leaking

body / expressive/ there’s always light/ under / pink and green / water / gills in the back / of

my throat / fan open / and close / with thickening / precipitation / a gulp when I waded

through bolts / of cloth/ in knotted air / streetlight colors on wind- / whipped / screens of rain
